DAA – Disability Awareness in Action

“All people are born equal in freedom and dignity”

Disability Awareness in Action is an information network on disability and human rights. It was set up in 1992 as a cooperative project of the international disability organisations responding to disabled people’s need for appropriate information.

Its mission is to provide information and evidence to support disabled people in their own actions to secure their rights – at all levels: local, national, regional and international. The information comes from disabled people to disabled people. The information is used by disabled people and their organisations to develop and build their own self-help movement at the local and national level, to campaign for and influence social change and to understand their inalienable right to freedom and dignity.

About Us

I am a Biochemist by background, so a lot of the medical terminology and all the genetics make sense, but I understand that to most people a lot of the information about DVT that is out there might as well be written in a different language. So I have tried was possible to keep it simple. If there is anything you don't understand I have tried to cover it in the glossary, unfortunately there are certain things, like the five hereditary genetic conditions, that can't be explained without scientific terminology. Please feel free to contact me if there is something you don’t understand and I will try and help.  This website has been put together, to try and help other people with DVT realise that they are not alone. This website has not been put together by a team of medical researchers, but by a fellow patient that struggled to understand their condition.

You can help find a cure for Parkinson's. It's in our grasp, but we need you to help fund vital research that could bring us even closer – by sponsoring a worm like Dave for £5 a month.

Why should you help? Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. It causes stiffness, tremors and slurred speech, making it hard to do things that many people take for granted. But with your support, we can find new ways to treat and prevent it.

Our friend Dave the Worm's playing a crucial part in the search for a cure – but he needs your help. Will you sponsor a worm like him - and help push towards the next major breakthrough?
